Focus 2008/2009 - Coach and Player Development. January OBJECTIVES 1. Raising the coaching level to a higher standard by: Regular coach's practice/meetings; Advice and feedback; Providing an easily accessable development resource person; Development clinics by invited clinicians; Attending seminars & clinics; providing in-house resources such as Books, dvd's, videos, tv, meeting room; indoor fascilities. 2. Development of a Practice Planner: to maintain consistency throught the club at all levels. 3. Player Development: providing extra opportunities for interested players to develop their skills to apply to a higher level of soccer ie. Rep, Regional try-outs and teams.

March 2009 Development Philosophy and Action plan 2009/10 Jim Brown. Philosophy – “To raise the skill level of Coaches who in turn will assist Players in reaching the highest level they wish to attain ”.
Action plan: Coach’s Development - Through regular Coaching Practice Meetings we will introduce and use the Practice Planner for developing a Consistent Club Practice; - Through Coaches Hands On Practice that will raise their level of Effective Technique in the Fundamental Skills, allowing them to be able to correct the player’s technique; - At these sessions we will emphasize the 3 Fundamental Skills - Dribbling, Passing & Receiving and Ball Control; - Coach’s Feedback at practices and games from development director or assigned resource coach; - Through Small Sided Games relate the Skills to Game Conditions, develop the Technical and Tactical experiences of the Game; - A Player Evaluation Sheet, to assist in determining the level of the player and what they need to bring them up to team par or to the next level; - Coaches Discussion at Practice Meetings to express their needs and make suggestions; - Resource Coach available online on our website for answers to questions and fill requests for assistance in practices [Development Coaching Team of coaches will be available to help develop the practice plan and assist if need to run it] - Certification: House League Coaches starting this year, 2009, and every year forward, the 8/9 year old team coach will be mandated to obtain Level 1 Certification. [this will be subsidized through our coaching development funds]. Player development Coaches 8-11year old Development Teams. - Qualified coaches will be assigned to coach these development teams with the aim of raising their level to try-out for teams at the Rep or Regional levels; - These players, as in the coaches plan of action, will get hands on experience in the fundamental skills, effective technique and game experience through small sided games; Feedback from coaches; evaluation and suggestions for improvement. All BYSC Players: - through coaches obtaining certification and attending our Coaches Practice Meetings, players will have the opportunity to be coached effectively in the Fundamental Skills and receive good game experiences.
Player Development 2009/2010 ….. [Development Committee will assist and provide feedback; select coaches; etc.]
1. Players 8-11 year olds [development towards rep/all star teams] 2. Elite Players [skilled players interested in trying out for regional or provincial] 3. Affiliate Players [former BYSC players involved in regional and provincial teams]
1. Players 8-11 development towards Rep Teams: Coaches: must be familiar or familiarize themselves with the requirements of Rep and All Star Programs and focus sessions for players to achieve that level of skill; Inform players and parents of the demands if player is selected to these teams [skills, travel, costs, team commitment, etc.]. Coaches’ selection will be done by the Development Committee.
SESSIONS: Three 12 week sessions [½ Sep to ½ Dec, Jan to March; April to June; ].
Registration: as per checkbox on registration forms; Cost – a cost of [$ to be determined], as an incentive for active participation [may include a shirt]; Parents MUST sign a short **responsibilities agreement before signing player ages 8-11 ;
Maximum players : 15 per session per coach [2 coaches if we have enough], may combine ages if numbers warrant it.
Practice Plan: the Practice Planner will be used, focusing on ‘Skills’ [technique, fitness, creativity, game sense, game terminology, ].

2. Elite Players [skilled players interested in trying out for regional or provincial] Age group: 12-15 Coaches must be familiar or familiarize themselves with the requirements of Regional and Provincial Programs and focus sessions for players to achieve that level of skill; To let players and parents understand the demands of these teams [skills, travel, costs, team commitment, etc.]. We will try to have at least one session with our Regional Coach [Alex McNutt] Coaches’ selection will be done by the Development Committee.
** SESSIONS: recommending Two 12 week sessions to coincide with tryouts [½ Sep – ½ Dec., Jan-March; ].
*Maximum players : 15 per session per coach [2 coaches if we have enough], may combine ages if numbers warrant it.
*Practice Plan: the Practice Planner will be used, focusing on Skills, Technical & Tactical [mostly technical & tactical] [technique, fitness with ball, creativity, game sense, game terminology, tactical knowledge ].
3. Affiliate Players [former BYSC players involved in regional and provincial teams]
Development director will communicate with parents/players asking how we can support their skill progress [gym time, extra coaching, ] ; suggest organizations who may have athletic funding; follow their progress;
Sessions: depending on their requirements we will select appropriate coach; team to train with;
