Benton Fry Ford Comets Take Gold at Russell Soccer Tournament
Belleville's U11 Girls Comets captured their second tournament
title of the season in Russell last weekend. The competition was
fierce and the team got off to a slow start on Saturday but
finished very strong with 3 wins on Sunday. The team is grateful
for the support of The Quinte Old Boys Soccer Club for sponsoring
their entry to the Russell Tournament. It is part of the Quinte
Old Boys mandate is to support soccer locally at all levels of play.
The Benton Fry Ford Comets also won gold at the Ottawa Icebreaker
in May. The team is currently in third place in their league and
undefeated in their last 8 games. Coaches Greg Royce, Mike Jans,
Ross Barrett & Karen Williamson are thrilled with the team's
continued development this season.

The first annual Belleville Comets City (Quinte Old Boys) U12 Father - Son match took place on Sunday 20 June 20th. The boys led the Dads through a series of drills, prior to the opening kick-off (a sound tactic aimed at tiring out the Dads before the game!) The hard fought battle pitted cunning, experience and determination against fitness, youthful exuberance and some would say superior skill! The lads edged past the Dads 4-3. A post game barbeque was enjoyed by all! It was a great Father's Day! Look out boys the dads might surprise you come the end-of-season rematch! |

The Belleville Comets United - McLaird's Straight Shooters U12 boys team has had a very successful start to their rep soccer season. The team is currently 4-0 in league match-ups; with convincing wins against Kingston United (4-0), Belleville City (3-0), St. Lawrence United (8-0) and last week against the Quinte West team (2-0).
Continuing in the fashion begun when the team won the Frank Sobil Spring Classic in Oshawa (in May), the boys had another very successful weekend at the Peterborough Challenge Cup this past weekend.
Saturday saw the Comets start the tournament with a decisive win over their Peterborough counterparts 8-1. Later in the afternoon, the team played Deep River and beat them 9-0. These impressive wins earned a pass for the team straight through to the semi-finals on Sunday where the Belleville club faced a much more focused and aggressive Peterborough squad. The Comets finished this semi final game with a 4-1 win over Peterborough which meant that they would meet Pickering in the Championship match. While Belleville dominated the play throughout the final game, they only managed to net 2 goals... but it was more than enough to become champs with a 2-0 final score.
Overall, the Comets finished with an impressive 23 goals for and 2 against in their 4 matches at the tournament.
The team continues their season with 4 home games beginning June 28th at Mary Anne Sills field (6:30 kick off).
